Hello, my name is Olivia and I am the creator of Gypsy Girl Blooms, a Passion Project Flower Farm just outside of DuPont Forest in the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. This is my online journal, documenting the project from its beginning.

I believe in the healing power of nature and the pure magic that flowers evoke. They can transform any space or mood they are welcomed into; not just with their beauty but with their message of resilience and hope too. I also believe in the pure magic that women embody and intend to use Gypsy Girl Blooms as another way to uplift, inspire and empower women.

I would be honored to have your financial support in my efforts at Gypsy Girl Blooms.

All donations will go directly to covering the costs associated with growing and sharing flowers with women who need some encouragement.

Looking into the face of a flower is a little like spending a moment with God and receiving whatever it is that we need, don’t you think?

  • This is my friend Allison!

She and her husband Ben are allowing me to use 1/2 acre of their land to create a flower farm. This is the future site of GGB, behind us. It was used as a horse ring at one time, so the soil quality is a concern...

  • The first step is getting the soil tested...

Which gave us a report on the soil health which took me two days to understand. I then compiled it into an easy to understand summary, which would take you four days to read.

  • Babies!

I had never started seeds indoors successfully so it was a daunting task to figure it out on a scale of growing hundreds of seeds at once...but it worked!!

  • Breaking Ground!

Allison had the land tilled and amended the soil with lime and fertilizer. The soil has A LOT of sand (horse ring) and not much organic matter. Soil health is going to be a work in progress.

  • Time to plot it all out!

    ...with wine of course!

  • They grow so fast!

I've grown the seeds in trays in my garage with artificial light for about 6 weeks and acclimated them to the outside weather. They're ready to plant!

  • Blank Canvas!...Well, almost....

Planting was delayed by a few weeks due to a nutso amount of rain...(we were looking on the horizon for the Ark)...and by the time things dried out enough to plant, unwelcome vegetation had taken up residence.

  • Day 1 of prepping to plant

I need to rake out/pull up all of the "weeds" and lay weed barrier down. Look how perky and happy I am! So precious...

  • Day 2 of prepping to plant

    "Mistakes were made"

    8 rows of weed cloth laid down. Or....7 & 3/4 I guess...

  • Planting Day!

Thoughts while tending the garden

I encounter God in the Garden much more than any other place really, and it’s powerful every single time. I wanted to create this page to share some of my realizations and lessons received while I’m tending to the garden/field.

The Story of “Gypsy Girl”

…So, the inspiration and intention with my little flower farm, Gypsy Girl Blooms is simple; to offer beauty and hope to the parts within all of us that have been rejected and disappointed. And, to honor that little flame within all of us that refuses to be stamped out.
